HISTORY

Zahra was orphaned by the age of three, when her mother died from food poisoning and her father left home and never came back. She was taken in for awhile by an aunt in Norey, who already had too many mouths to feed and so often ended up having to fight her cousins for anything she needed: food, clothes, space on the bed to sleep, toys, privacy, attention. Always having been small for her age didn't help matters, so if she went without at home, she resorted to stealing on the streets and in the tavern nearby. This was how things were for ten years.

Then her life changed.

One day, she pickpocketed a drunk who caught her in the act and threatened to kill her until a huge, strange-looking and incredibly intimidating man stepped in and and scared the drunk off. Zahra should have been scared at the sight of the man, but how can you be scared someone who'd just saved your life? She started to watch him and follow him around whenever she caught sight of him, wanting to know more about him so that she could pay him back somehow. Soon, she learnt that the man was a travelling mercenary named Daren, looking for work. And soon saw that he had an extraordinarily reckless regard for his life. He caught her spying on him a few weeks after she started, but by then, she was utterly determined that she was going to repay Daren by saving him from a nasty, untimely death and insisted on being his "partner". Or, as much as a partner a thirteen year old thieving street rat could be.

The rest is history.

PERSONALITY

Zahra is a girl of extremes and hyperboles. Everything to her is all or nothing. When she's happy, she laughs loudly, she squeals with pure delight, she chatters at such incredible speeds that only Daren can make sense of her. When she's sad (and such occassions are rare), she pouts, she cries without shame, and screams with such grief that one would think that a loved one had died. When she's angry, well, it's really best not to say. Zahra is extremely persistent and inquistive; when she set her mind on something, she will always go through with it, and she will ask and ask and ask until she is well satisfied with the answer. Unless, of course, her line of questioning annoys Daren; then, she shuts up.

Zahra is also completely and utterly devoted to Daren. She thinks the world of him and wishes for nothing more than for him to be happy. She has grown up to be incredibly self-sufficient, but ever since meeting and travelling with Daren, she has become increasingly dependent on him (perhaps for the worse, but she certainly doesn't think so). Zahra is determined not to become deadweight to Daren and so, aspires to learn as much as she can about fighting, swordplay, pickpocketing -- even cooking, cleaning and laundry -- in order to be useful. Their relationship is a strange mix of business partners, teacher and very dilligent student, father and daughter, and a highly one-sided admiration. She follows Daren around almost as if she were his shadow, and is very protective of him. Speak a bad word against Daren at your peril.

APPEARANCE

Zahra has short pink hair that reaches her chin and wide expressive eyes. She looks very childlike, an impression that isn't at all helped by her short height. The clothes she wears are often loose and free flowing for movement. She may be small, but she packs one hell of a punch.
